HTS & Commodity Classification Basics + ACE

The Harmonized Systems Process comprises about 5,000 commodity groups arranged in a legal and logical structure and is supported by well-defined rules to achieve uniform classification. The HTS & Commodity Classification system is used by more than 200 countries and economies as a basis for their Customs tariffs and for the collection of international trade statistics. This workshop is best suited for people involved with logistics and documentation of imports and/or exports. In order to customize this workshop for the participants, all participants will be asked to provide some information on their products and questions in advance.

This program will help you understand the Harmonized Tariff System for imports and the Schedule B listing for exports. We will learn and review the 6 General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) used to classify every product. We will go through instructor and Customs & Border Protection (CPB) based sample classifications using each of the General Rules. By using the CROSS system we will show how CBP reviews binding ruling requests and what that means for your products.
