Union Pacific Railroad will halt all international intermodal service from the West Coast to its Global IV terminal in Joliet, Illinois for up to seven days beginning as early as today in an effort to clear a significant congestion situation.

The suspension covers containers from Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, and Tacoma and applies to all UP’s ocean carrier partners.
Reservations already obtained in Long Beach will be honored but no new reservations will be provided.

Containers at the UP Global IV stack in Joliet have been stuck for as many as 50 days in some cases and incurred as much as $11,000.00 in rail storage charges.
The UP will cap storage fees for stacked and inaccessible containers at the Global IV terminal at $2450.00 per container
The cap will apply to containers already in the stack and new containers entering the stack.
