China’s state council extends the Lunar New Year Holiday to February 2. Chinese state council announced Monday that the Spring Festival holiday will be extended to February 2 across the country which was originally from January 24 to January 30. (Read the official Notification here ) People of China will resume the work on Monday, February 3.

Meanwhile, Shanghai extends the holiday till February 9 (Read the official Notification here) and Zhejiang Province announced that all the offices and schools will open on February 9. (Read the official Notification here)

The move is taken by the govt to restrict public movement and large gatherings as the coronavirus has effected the country. The government and healthcare authorities of China double down on efforts to containing the novel coronavirus outbreak.

However, various businesses have advised their HR department to monitor for notifications from local authorities regarding the implementation of city-wise policies or if any areas have to be quarantined.
It is also important to have open communication with the employees to avoid a situation that can create any kind of confusion or panic.
Also, employees are asked to work from home if they feel unwell or returning from cities that are subjected to transport restriction or lock-down, also if they have had interaction with friends/family/relatives traveling from affected areas.

Employees will be able to seek their compensatory leaves as per the countries labor law if they have lost vacation due to the prevention of the epidemic and performing other control duties. Also, wages and salaries for lapsed or unused holidays will be guaranteed as per respective labor policies.

The start of the spring semester for colleges. schools and kindergartens have been suspended. The notice will be issued by the Education Department on when institutions will reopen.
